Who we are & what we do

About NSADA

The Nova Scotia Automobile Dealers’ Association (NSADA) represents the collective interests of 121 new car franchised dealers across the province, along with an associate membership of suppliers serving the automotive retail sector in Nova Scotia.

Since the 1940s, NSADA has been the sole voice of the new car dealer body in Nova Scotia, speaking exclusively on behalf of dealers and advocating for their interests at both the provincial and national levels.

Our Mission

NSADA works to serve the collective interests of its members by promoting positive relationships with government, industry partners, suppliers, consumers, and media. The association provides effective programs and services designed to strengthen the automotive retail sector and ensure a fair and responsible business environment.

The Dealer in Your Community

A typical new car dealership in Nova Scotia employs approximately 25 people, and sells around 375 new vehicles per year.

Larger dealerships may employ up to 200 people and sell as many as 3,500 vehicles annually.

Dealers are more than business owners—they are community builders. They invest locally, create jobs, contribute to charitable and civic initiatives, and help their communities grow and prosper.

As Lee Iacocca, former Chairman of Chrysler Corporation, once said:

“It’s the dealers who have always been the guts of the car business… While they have a working relationship with the manufacturer, they really are entrepreneurs. Dealers are the ones who actually sell and service all the cars the factories are turning out and represent the first contact with the manufacturer by customers.”

Organization and Membership

Across Canada, there are approximately 3,500 new car franchised dealers, with 125 located in Nova Scotia—of which 121 are represented by NSADA. The association also represents numerous suppliers and service providers that support the province’s automotive industry.

Dealers in Nova Scotia are organized through regional chapters, including: Cape Breton; Antigonish–Guysborough; Pictou County; Truro–Colchester; Cumberland County; Halifax–Dartmouth Regional Municipality; Annapolis Valley; South Shore and Yarmouth–Digby.

Our Focus

NSADA’s central focus is on advocacy and collaboration with government, both provincially and federally, on all matters related to the retailing of automobiles. Key areas of involvement include: Taxation and regulatory policy; Dealer licensing; Derelict vehicle management; Environmental and consumer protection initiatives

Our Commitment

As a long-term goal, NSADA strives to work proactively with government and industry partners to ensure that automobile retailing in Nova Scotia is conducted with integrity, accountability, and a strong commitment to service—for the benefit of both the community and the province as a whole.
